Art and Design
At Keston CE Primary School, we are ARTISTS. We believe that every child is entitled to a rich, inspiring and high‑quality Art and Design education as part of a broad and balanced curriculum. Art enables children to develop and extend their skills while providing meaningful opportunities to express their individuality, interests, thoughts and ideas.
To support this vision, Keston CE Primary School has implemented Kapow Primary’s Art and Design scheme of work. This curriculum is designed to nurture pupils’ creativity, imagination and visual literacy, encouraging them to think, explore and respond as artists and designers.
Our Art and Design curriculum aims to:
- Develop confidence and creativity by encouraging pupils to experiment, take creative risks and communicate meaning through visual and tactile media.
- Promote originality and imagination, helping children to develop their own artistic voice.
- Build critical thinking skills so that pupils can reflect on their own work and respond thoughtfully to the work of others.
- Deepen cultural and historical understanding, enabling children to appreciate art as a powerful form of human expression across different times, cultures and creative industries.
- Equip pupils with practical knowledge and skills to invent, create and evaluate their own works of art as they progress through school.
- Support teachers’ subject knowledge and pedagogical confidence, ensuring high‑quality, purposeful and engaging art lessons for all learners.
- Ensure inclusivity and ambition, allowing every child to enjoy, create and respond to art in meaningful and accessible ways.
Arts and crafts embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. Through the Kapow scheme and our commitment to artistic development, we empower all pupils at Keston CE Primary School to explore, create and flourish as young artists who understand how art reflects and shapes our history, culture and world.
