Keston Church of England Primary School

Reception

"I love coming to school each day. We even get to learn outside!"

- Reception Pupil

Our Reception class at Keston CE Primary School is a warm, caring, safe and inclusive environment where every child is given the opportunity to learn and grow, and develop the skills and knowledge to be ready to progress through school and in life.  We want every child to develop a love of learning and we have an exciting curriculum where the children can learn through playing, exploring, active learning, creating and critical thinking.  Learning takes place both indoors and outside, and the children enjoy taking part in Forest School.

Here at Keston we recognise that every child is unique and that every child can thrive with the right support.  We encourage positive relationships between the children, teachers and parents and carers – we are a community.  We believe children learn best in a happy, positive atmosphere where they feel safe and aren’t afraid to ‘have a go’.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Development Matters guidance which builds the foundations for each child’s academic, personal, social and emotional development.    This includes communication and language, literacy, physical development, mathematics, personal, social & emotional development, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.  The full curriculum is on our reception curriculum jigsaw (link) and throughout the year the children enjoy learning about lots of exciting topics such as ‘What if, once upon a time…?’, ‘Are minibeasts super?’ and ‘Do all babies look like their mummies and daddies?’

We read books together and do fun, creative activities to bring the topics to life. In Reception, we also have exciting experiences such meeting Father Christmas and a Pirate Workshop!

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like any more information.  Everyone is welcome in Reception!
